Combining the imagery of the solar flare with my studies in color composition, “Solar Flares I ”...a.k.a. “Color Studies 2008 ”...was launched. By the close of 2011, some 45 solar flare paintings had been completed (along with a number of “Sunspots... ” mixed-media paintings).

This imagery now firmly burned into my psyche, continues to beckon me to the muse of color. As before, from each of the paintings I make five digital print variations. Combining these with the 75 original paintings forms the pulsing, rhythmic metaphor for our episodic times...“Solar Flares III.”

This work resonates with another ongoing body of work that is even more abstract in nature...perhaps to the nth degree...the Brooks (Base) Square interactive matrix (BBSi).
